Olivier Karekezi and Meddie Kagere have joined Amavubi camp to enhance the national team’s training ahead of the last Africa Nations' Cup Qualifier against Benin on October 9 in Porto Novo.
Karekezi joined the team's training sessions on Thursday after ironing out his reported ‘differences’ with Amavubi interim coach Eric Nshimiyimana.
They held talks with FERWAFA Executive Committee and Technical Staff on Wednesday and both parties reached a positive understanding.
Karekezi recently joined APR FC from Sweden’s Osters IF while Kagere has been playing for Police FC in the Primus National Football League (PNFL). He also happens to be the only surviving member of the team which featured in the 2004 Africa Nations Cup in Tunisia.
Kagere was named last season’s top scorer by Bralirwa, sponsors of PNFL.
Rwanda is already out of contention for the 2012 Africa Nations' Cup Qualifiers after managing just one win in 5 matches but the team will go into the qualifier to fight for the nation’s pride.
The team has been training with its local players and five professional players — DC Motema Pembe pair of Bokota Labama and Mao Kalisa, AS Cannes's striker Elias Uzamukunda, Haruna Niyonzima (SC Yanga), and Jean Marie Rusingizandekwe (FC Marines) — are expected to beef up the team’s preparation soon.
The team heads to Porto Novo on October 6.
