Nirisarike, Bizimana link up with Amavubi in Conakry

Posted on Oct 10 2018

Belgium-based Amavubi duo of center back Nirisarike Salomon (AFC Tubize), Bizimana Djihad (Waasland-Beveren) linked up with Rwanda team on Tuesday night in Conakry ahead of the first-leg clash of their AFCON 2019 Group H qualifier in Conakry this Friday.

Guinea will host Rwanda at Stade du 28 Septembre in the country’s capital.

Nirisarike and Bizimana Djihad who are key first choice players didn’t travel with the team from Kigali but had to meet with the Rwandan delegation in Conakry following their flight from Brussels early on Tuesday.

The Amavubi delegation also arrived in Conakry last night following a 28-hour flight which started on Monday from Kigali and are residing at Onomo Hotel. They will hold their training session today and tomorrow ahead of Friday’s crucial encounter.

Meanwhile, Gor Mahia FC forward Jacques Tuyisenge missed the Ivory Coast game last month due to injury, believes that Rwanda has what it takes to get maximum points away to Guinea.

He told Times sport before departure that, “It feels good to be back in Amavubi squad and to represent my country again; I will try to contribute to the best of my abilities hoping that everyone else on the team also does the same. We are a good team and have what it takes to win in Guinea,” the 27-year old said during a telephone interview with Times Sport from Guinea on Tuesday.

Sitting at the bottom of the group without a single point yet, Vincent Mashami’s men will need a crucial away victory against in-form Syli Nationale to revive hopes for a ticket to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals in Cameroon.

Tuyisenge further noted that, “Morale is high in the team since landing in Guinea; we are going to keep preparing for the game, mentally and tactically.

“We will have to be cautious in defense and at the same time press hard for goals.”

Unbeaten Guinea lead the group standings with six points, while Ivory and Central African Republic are second and third, respectively, with three points each.
