FERWAFA Super Cup 2019 set for October 1

Posted on Sep 15 2019

The 2019 FERWAFA Super Cup match will see Rwanda Premier League champions, Rayon Sports FC and Peace Cup holder AS Kigali has been scheduled to be played on October 1 at Amahoro Stadium.

The season-opener match between league champions and Peace Cup winner is organised by the local football governing body, FERWAFA.

Rayon Sports won the 2018/2019 Rwanda Premier League title with seven points ahead of first runners-up APR FC on June 2 while AS Kigali maintained their perfect record in Peace Cup finals as they lifted the 2018/19 edition.

Speaking to Ferwafa.rw, the FERWAFA Head of Competitions who also doubles as the Spokesperson Mugabe Bonnie said, "Due to the tight FIFA and CAF Competitions calendar, FERWAFA Super Cup-curtain-raise for the 2019/2020 Rwanda Premier League will be staged on October 1, 2019, three days before the season gets underway, "

"This is the only time frame available for this match to be played before the season gets underway. We would have preferred to have this match played before October 1 but the national engagement in the 2020 CHAN Qualifiers and AS Kigali’s involvement in the CAF Confederations Cup could not permit us to do so," explained Mugabe.

Last year, APR FC won the super cup title after edging Mukura VS 2-0 at Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu District.

Besides the winners’ trophy, the 2019/2020 FERWAFA Super Cup winner will also pocket Rwf. 5m in cash prize.
