Rwanda Premier League 2019/20 Season fixtures released

Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has released the fixtures for the forthcoming 2019/20 Rwanda Premier League Season which is scheduled to start on October 4.

The fixtures revealed only cater for the first round running between October and December, 2019.

Speaking to Ferwafa.rw, the FERWAFA Head of Competitions who also doubles as the Spokesperson Mugabe Bonnie explained that there will be a marathon of games played during the first leg while putting into consideration CAF and CECAFA Competitions scheduled within these months.

“The first leg fixtures of Rwanda Premier League have been approved by FERWAFA Management. We expect to have a tight football calendar and everything must be done in the time frame available such that this season ends in the set timeline. The calendar puts into consideration the busy CAF competitions Calendar which we have to be in conformity with. Therefore, we shall have the first round played between October to December before breaking off and the return leg will be played from mid January to May, 2020.”

The league will kick-off on October 4, 2019 with Peace Cup holders AS Kigali hosting record champions APR FC at Stade de Kigali at 15h00.

Defending champions Rayon Sports FC will begin their title defense away to newly promoted side Gasogi United at Stade de Kigali on October 5, 2019.

The other games scheduled on match day one include Bugesera FC hosting Heroes FC at Bugesera Stadium, Etincelles FC host SC Kiyovu at Stade Umuganda, Mukura VS hosts Espoir FC at Stade Umuganda, all set to be played on October 5, 2019.

On October 6, Marines Fc hosts Gicumbi FC at Stade Umuganda, Musanze FC will be away to AS Muhanga at Stade Muhanga while Sunrise FC plays away to Police Fc at Stade de Kigali.

Gicumbi FC, Sunrise FC, Musanze FC and Espoir FC have been informed to seek for alternative home grounds for their home matches. They will be free to return to their initial venues if the standards asked by the FERWAFA licensing board are met.

"The home venues for Gicumbi FC, Musanze FC, Espoir FC and Surnise FC did not meet the club licensing standards in relation to the infrastructure criteria. Affected clubs have been asked to inform FERWAFA their alternative venues and should they not respond in a time frame of one week, they will not be licenced to compete in the 2019/2020 Rwanda premier League season,"

"The other club which was not licenced is Etincelles FC after failing submit relevant documents to the club licencing body during the set deadlines. However, Etincelles has since appealed the decision taken by the first instance body of the club licencing board. The Appeals committee will meet and pass the final decision which will determine whether Etincelles FC meets the requirements to be licenced or not for them to compete in the 2019/2020 Rwanda Premier League Season," Mugabe added.

The 2019/2020 Rwanda Premier League Season is scheduled to climax on May 23, 2020.
