FERWAFA Launches Rwanda Rising Stars (U17) and Rwanda Elite Premier League (U20) Girls Competitions

The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA), in partnership with FIFA, today officially launched two key youth women’s football competitions namely, the Rwanda Rising Stars (U17) and the Rwanda Elite Premier League (U20) Girls , during an opening event held at Ikirenga Stadium.


The launch was marked by two exciting football matches featuring youth women’s teams. In the U20 category, APR WFC came from behind to defeat Rayon Sport WFC 4-3 against while in the U17 category, ES Mutunda WFC emerged victorious following 2-0 win over Runda Vision WFC.


The launch ceremony which was presided over by FERWAFA President Fabrice SHEMA NGOGA, attracted various football family leaders namely FIFA Regional Office representative Sixbert HABIMANA, EXCOM members, the National Technical Director, Women’s National Team Head Coach and women club presidents among others. 

In his remarks, President Fabrice Shema Ngoga encouraged the young players to take full advantage of the opportunity provided by the competitions to develop their talent and pursue excellence in football.


“This platform is an important step for the future of women’s football in Rwanda. I encourage all players to seize this opportunity, work hard, and continue growing in the game,” said President Fabrice Shema Ngoga.

He reaffirmed FERWAFA’s strong commitment from grassroots football development and expressed appreciation to FIFA for its continued support in advancing football development across Rwanda.

The Rwanda Rising Stars (U17) competition has attracted 21 teams, bringing together around 525 players, with a total of 129 matches scheduled to be played throughout the season.

Meanwhile, the Rwanda Elite Premier League (U20) Girls features 18 teams and over 450 players, with 147 matches planned to be played as part of the competition calendar.
