The Fédération Rwandaise de Football Association (FERWAFA) is hosting a two-day FIFA Women’s strategy workshop with the aim of devising a new strategy for women's and girls’ football in Rwanda.
The workshop which kicked off today, May 6 at FERWAFA accommodation facility, brought together 48 representatives from football clubs, FERWAFA Executive committee and staff, coaching staff, government bodies, as well as FIFA expert FIFA expert Thubaelihle Sibanda.
The FERWAFA 2nd Vice President Richard Mugisha who officially opened the workshop said, “This workshop was necessary, as bringing all stakeholders on board was our objective. Strategy development is not something done for you, but with you, so your participation in the planning process is essential,”
“Our shared vision is to qualify for international competition finals either the WAFCON or the FIFA World Cup before 2029, so this workshop is vital in cementing our vision,” added Mugisha.
The workshop aims at developing a comprehensive project to advance women’s football in Rwanda, bringing together key stakeholders from different sectors of the game.
Twelve club captains are providing players’ perspectives, while coaches contribute technical and tactical insights. Club presidents or their envoys are engaging on governance and leadership, alongside fan representatives and media personnel focused on public engagement and visibility.
The opening day concluded with remarks from the Director General of Sports Development, Gilbert Muvunyi Manier, representing MINISPORTS, who commended the initiative and emphasized the importance of strengthening women’s football structures in Rwanda.
The workshop continues on Thursday, 7th May 2026, with working groups diving into key strategic priorities. The outcomes will feed directly into the final women’s football strategy document. A friendly match between participants will also be played as part of the programme.
