The Amavubi head coach Stephen Constantine has announced a 24-man squad for the upcoming international friendlies against Comoros and Tanzania, scheduled to take place in Marrakech, Morocco next month.
Rwanda will face Comoros on June 6, before taking on Tanzania on June 9 in the Moroccan city.
Among the selected players is a new addition to the senior national team setup, Noam Fritz Emeran, a 24-year-old winger who plays for Dutch Eredivisie side FC Groningen. Emeran, son of former Amavubi player Fritz Emeran Nkusi, earns his first senior call-up.
Another new face in the squad is Fidali Uwiyaremye, a young striker who has impressed in the Rwanda Premier League, scoring 11 goals for Kiyovu Sports this season.
Speaking to FERWAFA media, head coach Constantine said that the upcoming training camp in Morocco is a key step in strengthening cohesion within the team as Rwanda continues its long-term development project.
“This camp is about building connection and identity. We had two positive results in the FIFA Series 2026, but I am still new in this role. I need the players to fully understand my philosophy because we are building a team that can perform consistently over time. This camp is an important opportunity to shape that identity,” Constantine said.
Injury absences and selection decisions
The squad will be without several players due to injury and fitness concerns.
Constantine confirmed that Joy-Lance Mickels, Leroy-Jacques Mickels, and Thierry Manzi are unavailable for selection.
“Hakim Sahabo has only played limited minutes for his club since March. From a physical standpoint, we felt he was not ready for this camp,” he added.
The coach emphasized that selection decisions are based strictly on fitness levels and current form, noting that he continuously monitors players across their clubs before making final choices.
AFCON 2027 qualifiers in focus
Rwanda’s June camp forms part of preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which begin in September 2026.
Amavubi have been drawn in Group K alongside Mali, Cape Verde, and Liberia.
The qualification campaign will be played across three FIFA international windows:
Matchdays 1–2: September 21 – October 6, 2026
Matchdays 3–4: November 9–17, 2026
Matchdays 5–6: March 22–30, 2027
The Morocco camp is expected to play a key role in tactical refinement and team building as Rwanda prepares for a highly competitive qualifying campaign.
