FERWAFA Reaffirms Commitment to Football Development

The ceremony was attended by several FERWAFA officials, including Second Vice President Richard Mugisha, Competitions Commissioner Désiré Niyitanga, General Secretary Bonnie Mugabe, club representatives and other football stakeholders.

Speaking on behalf of FERWAFA President Fabrice Shema, Second Vice President Richard Mugisha commended the Rwanda Premier League Board for its efforts in organizing a successful season and outlined the federation’s strategic priorities.

“As FERWAFA, we have three key priorities. First, we want to support the League Board in making the league sustainable through improved financial stability and capacity building. We will also be very strict on club licensing to ensure clubs meet the required standards.

Second is football development. We are strengthening grassroots football so Premier League clubs have a solid talent pipeline, while also investing heavily in coach education. In 2023, Rwanda had only 18 CAF A Licence coaches. By the end of this year, we expect to have 43 CAF A Licence holders, which is a significant achievement.

Third is improving fan experience and commercializing the league. We want to make our football more entertaining so that supporters in stadiums and those watching on television enjoy the product, making it more attractive to partners and sponsors.”

The ceremony concluded with optimism for another exciting campaign, with the 2026/27 BK Pro League season scheduled to kick off on 4 September 2026 and run until 30 May 2027.
