The two-day Club Licensing Workshop for BK PRO LEAGUE Club Licensing Managers concluded on 16th July 2026 with a strong call for professionalism, sustainability, and long-term development as the foundation for the future of Rwandan football, the workshop was organized to strengthen their understanding of club licensing requirements and prepare clubs for the upcoming licensing cycle ahead of the new season.
Participants received comprehensive training on key pillars of club licensing, including administration requirements, legal matters, financial management, stadium infrastructure requirements, and the use of the Club Licensing Online Platform. The sessions aimed at equipping clubs with the knowledge and tools necessary to meet licensing standards and accelerate the professionalization of the league.
Closing the workshop, FERWAFA Second Vice President in charge of Technical Matters and Development, Mr. Richard Mugisha, emphasized that Rwanda possesses all the ingredients needed to build one of Africa’s leading football leagues.
“There is nothing that can stop our league from becoming one of the top ten leagues in Africa, only if we professionalize our BK PRO LEAGUE and put in place strategies for clubs to become self-sustainable. We have talent; teams do not need to look further for expensive players but rather invest in developing your own,” said Mr. Richard Mugisha.
Mr. Mugisha further encouraged clubs to view club licensing not merely as a compliance exercise but as a roadmap towards stronger governance, financial stability, youth development, and improved competitiveness.
The workshop also highlighted that the club licensing standards introduced in 2025 will remain in force until a planned review in 2029, when stakeholders will assess which requirements should be maintained, revised, added, or removed in line with the evolution of the game.
As clubs begin preparations for the 2026/27 season, FERWAFA reminded participants that the deadline for submission and compliance with Club Licensing requirements has been set for 3 August 2026.
