Rwanda U-17 Men’s National Team Begins Preselection Ahead of AFCON U-17 CECAFA Qualifiers

The Rwanda U-17 Men’s National Team has commenced a three-day player preselection exercise as preparations intensify for the upcoming AFCON U-17 CECAFA Qualifiers 2026.

The preselection, running from 26th to 28th August 2026 at Kigali Pele Stadium, brings together eligible young talents identified from various youth football development pathways across the country. The exercise is aimed at assessing and identifying players who will earn a place in the final national team camp ahead of the regional qualifiers.

The pool of players includes promising talents from the Rwanda Rising Stars U-17 National Competition, Isonga selections, the FIFA Talent Development Scheme (TDS), and the Schools Championship, providing an opportunity to evaluate players from different youth football structures.

The exercise is being led by U-17 Men’s National Team Head Coach Jimmy MULISA, alongside FERWAFA scouts and technical staff, who are assessing the players’ technical abilities, tactical understanding, physical attributes, discipline and overall potential.

Following the preselection, the most outstanding and eligible players will be invited to the final preparation camp, where the team will continue its preparations for the AFCON U-17 CECAFA Qualifiers 2026 set to be played from 10th to 25th October 2026.

The exercise is part of FERWAFA’s continued commitment to strengthening youth development and creating a clear pathway for talented young players to progress into Rwanda’s national teams.
