A five-day FIFA M.A. Refereeing Course for Football Instructors was held in Kigali from Monday, August 24 to Friday, August 28, 2026, bringing together 30 Rwandan refereeing instructors as part of efforts to strengthen the quality, professionalism and effectiveness of referee instruction ahead of the 2026/27 football season.
The course brought together 20 Technical Instructors and 10 Fitness Instructors, who underwent specialised sessions designed to enhance their knowledge, teaching methodologies and ability to effectively prepare referees for the demands of the modern game.
The Technical Instructors covered key areas including referee theory, the Laws of the Game, as well as recent changes and modifications to the Laws. The sessions aimed to ensure that instructors remained up to date and were able to deliver accurate, consistent and professional guidance to referees.
Meanwhile, the Fitness Instructors focused on fitness methodology and different techniques used to prepare referees physically. The sessions emphasised the importance of maintaining high levels of fitness and ensuring that referees were physically prepared to meet the demands of matches throughout the season.
The five-day course aimed to improve the way Rwandan refereeing instructors work, equipping them with updated knowledge and practical approaches to deliver better and more professional referee development programmes.
The programme was held at an important time as Rwanda prepares for the 2026/27 football season, with referees expected to maintain high standards of performance, fitness and professionalism across domestic competitions.
The course was facilitated by FIFA delegates Ntagungira Celestin and Hannachi Maroua, who provided guidance and expertise throughout the five-day programme.
Through continued investment in referee education and instructor development, FERWAFA is strengthening the foundations of refereeing in Rwanda and working to ensure that match officials are well prepared for the challenges of the upcoming season.
