The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has today 31st August 2026, officially opened the FIFA M.A. Refereeing Course for Women’s Referees, bringing together 28 female match officials for five days of intensive theoretical and practical training from 31 August to 4 September 2026.

The course was officially opened by Louis Hakizimana, Commissioner of Refereeing at FERWAFA, who welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of continuous development and professionalism among match officials.

The training is being conducted by FIFA Instructor Mrs. Gladys Lengwe from Zambia, who will guide the referees through key aspects of modern refereeing and the Laws of the Game.

The 28 participating women referees include officials currently officiating in the Men’s Division 2 as well as referees from the Women’s Division 1, reflecting FERWAFA’s continued efforts to strengthen the capacity and experience of women match officials across different competitions.

The course began with a fitness test at Amahoro Stadium, setting the foundation for the demanding technical and practical sessions ahead.

The practical component will involve match situations with players, allowing referees to apply their knowledge in real-game scenarios and receive instant feedback from the FIFA instructor.

The course forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance the quality, consistency and professionalism of refereeing in Rwanda, while providing women match officials with the knowledge, fitness and practical experience required to perform at the highest level.
