A handover ceremony was held on Thursday, 29 October 2026, at the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) Headquarters, marking the transition of leadership from outgoing President Fabrice Ngoga Shema to Interim President Me Claudine Gasarabwe.
In his remarks, outgoing President Fabrice Ngoga Shema expressed gratitude to everyone who supported him throughout his tenure, including members of the General Assembly, government partners such as the Ministry of Sports (MINISPORTS), international football governing bodies FIFA, CAF and CECAFA, members of the Executive Committee, FERWAFA staff, coaches, players, referees and football fans.
“I thank everyone who supported me in carrying out my responsibilities. Rwandan football is making visible progress, and as a country, we should continue building on what we have achieved.
“I am not leaving football behind. I will continue attending matches at the stadium and supporting Amavubi in different circumstances. I believe we will qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations. Let us continue developing our football and enjoying the game,” Shema said.
Interim President Me Claudine Gasarabwe thanked Shema for his contribution to Rwandan football and pledged to continue the work already underway, while making improvements where necessary in the best interests of the game.
“The project we were elected to implement is one we will not abandon. Where necessary, we will refine it for the benefit of Rwandan football. Last year, we achieved positive results, and we want to build on that progress.
“What is required of us is to remain united, uphold professionalism, improve the quality of our work and embrace accountability,” Gasarabwe said.
Me Claudine Gasarabwe will continue serving as FERWAFA’s Interim President until the Extraordinary Elective General Assembly, scheduled for January 2027.
