FERWAFA Meets U17 & U20 Teams Ahead of 2026 Leagues, Reaffirms Commitment to Talent Development

The Fédération Rwandaise de Football Association (FERWAFA) convened a strategic meeting on Thursday which involved U17 and U20 boys’ and girls’ teams set to compete in the upcoming national youth competitions.

The meeting aimed to presenting the main objectives of the competitions, align coaches with FERWAFA’s vision and expectations, and distribute ball support to each participating team as part of the federation’s continued commitment to youth football development.

The session was chaired by the Commissioner in charge of Technical Matters and Development, Mr. Fidele Kanamugire, who commended the teams for their invaluable contribution to the growth of Rwandan football.

In his remarks, he said, ‘We thank you for your dedication and the important role you play in developing young talents across the country. FERWAFA values your efforts and will always strive to support you with the available funds and equipment,” he stated.

During the meeting, emphasis was placed on professionalism, technical growth, and adherence to development objectives designed to nurture the next generation of players. Coaches were encouraged to fully align their programs with the federation’s long-term technical vision.

For the third consecutive year, the U-17 and U-20 leagues are set to commence in the weeks of 21st and 28th February 2026. The competitions will be organized in zonal formats during the group stage, based on the geographical localization of the participating teams. This structure is intended to enhance accessibility, reduce logistical constraints, and promote wider participation across the country.

The distribution of footballs to each team further underscored FERWAFA’s practical support toward ensuring optimal preparation and competitive standards.

As Rwanda continues to invest in structured youth competitions, this initiative remains fully in line with FERWAFA’s strategic vision of identifying, nurturing, and developing football talents at grassroots and youth levels, laying a strong foundation for the future of the game.
