The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has officially launched a refereeing course for 66 newly recruited referees who will support officiation of the FERWAFA U20 and U17 youth leagues.
The training programme, bringing together 44 boys and 22 girls, started today at FERWAFA Accommodation Facility and will go on until 27 February 2026. Practical sessions are scheduled to take place at KIE (UR Remera Campus) on 25 and 26 February 2026, providing participants with hands-on experience to complement the theoretical modules.
The course is being delivered by a team of 10 certified refereeing instructors, reflecting FERWAFA’s commitment to strengthening technical standards and building capacity within Rwanda’s refereeing structure.
The opening session was presided over by the Commissioner in charge of Referees, Louis Hakizimana, who emphasized the importance of investing in young match officials to safeguard the integrity and quality of youth competitions.
“Developing competent and confident referees is essential for the growth of our game, especially at youth level. This course is not only about learning the Laws of the Game, but also about discipline, consistency, and professionalism. We are building the next generation of referees who will uphold the standards of Rwandan football,” said Hakizimana.
By organizing this course, FERWAFA continues to demonstrate its strategic focus on technical development across all sectors of the game, ensuring that youth competitions are officiated with fairness, competence, and integrity.
